The
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”) is a federal law
that provides national standards for the protection of medical records and
personal health information of individuals. The self-insured healthcare plan
that your organization provides through the Jefferson Health Plan is considered
a “Covered Entity,” which must comply with HIPAA. HIPAA requires individuals or
employees who may have access to certain health information of covered
individuals, referred to as protected health information (“PHI”), to receive period
training about the privacy, security and protection of PHI.
